Electrolyte G is gastric replacement solution. It provides electrolytes lost via gastric suction or vomiting. Gastric Juice is always acidic due to its acidic contents. Therefore, loss of gastric juice due to any reason, also causes loss of acidity. In turn, alkalosis develops due to H+ ion deficit.
The solution contains ammonium ions which are converted to urea and hydrogen ions by the liver. Thus hydrogen ion deficit produced by gastric juice loss is replaced. It also corrects alkalosis.
- To provide electrolytes during gastric fluid loss by vomiting or gastric suction
- To counter metabolic alkalosis resulting from ingestion of sodium bicarbonate
- Over use of organomercurial diuretics
